This Broadway blockbuster is a fun, full-speed-ahead giant with madcap antics aboard an ocean liner bound from New York to London. A stowaway in love with an attached heiress, a nightclub singer, Public Enemy #13, and the rest of the ship take part in the age-old tale of boy meets girl. Amongst the powerful dance numbers and the musical hits, it’s a wonder that all the romances are sorted out and disaster is averted!
Brooke Kiener (Director) has been an actor, director and educator in Spokane for more than 15 years. Recent directing credits include The Best Brothers for The Modern Theatre-Spokane, The Drowsy Chaperone for Whitworth Theatre, and Sylvia for Spokane Civic Theatre. Brooke is a theatre professor at Whitworth University and holds an MFA from Goddard College.
Zachariah Baker (Musical Director) is a multi-instrumentalist, director, composer, and vocalist from Sandpoint, Idaho. While the majority of his time is spent on the piano, he enjoys performing as a guitarist as well! Zack’s first musical direction experience at The Modern Theater (then Lake City Playhouse) was for the 2011 production of Urinetown – he has loved it ever since.
Heidy Cartwright (Choreographer) is blessed to have the opportunity to work at The Modern CDA stage. Heidy is the owner and dance teacher at Step In Time Dance Studio. Her favorite acting and choreography credits include Catch Me If You Can (Choreographer), Clue, the Musical (Choreographer), Nunsense Amen! (Asst. Choreographer), and A Christmas Carol (Mrs. Fezziwig/Dance Captain). Heidy would like to thank The Modern Theatre for their warm welcome along with her husband Brandon, and two children, Alyssa and Henry for all their love and support.
Mario Alberto (Luke) is thrilled to be apart of another show with the Modern this season. Mario was last seen as Oscar alongside Robbie Garcia’s “Phil” in The Wild Party, and will be portraying Sancho Panza in the upcoming production of Man of La Mancha. Other notable roles include Ching Ho in Thoroughly Modern Millie, Jonny in Zombie Prom, and Ernst in Spring Awakening. Thank you for your patronage and continued support of the local arts.
Brook Bassett (Virtue /Angel) is the owner of Verve Studio 8 and Co-founder of Cd’A Murder Mystery Theatre. She is secretary of the Inland Northwest Dance Association and a frequent actor, choreographer and director around the Inland Northwest. Favorite acting credits include 42nd Street (Betty), The Diary of Anne Frank (Mrs.Van Daan) and Beauty and the Beast (Tap Dancing Whisk/Sausage Curl Girl).
Dan Baumer (Lord Evelyn Oakleigh) works primarily as a photographer for The Modern and is responsible for the many character portraits you’ve seen. More theater portraits can be found at danscape.de.

Abbey Crawford (Reno Sweeney) is an award-winning vocalist, and Spokane’s only trained cabaret singer. Recently, she has directed Assassins, Boeing, Boeing as well as All is Calm for The Modern Theatre. Her on-stage credits include Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd and The Witch in Into The Woods for Lake City Playhouse. Chelsea Haynie (Purity/Angel) : is happy to be back on the Modern Theater stage after welcoming baby boy #4 in February. She was previously seen in Les Miserables and The Sound Of Music (Elsa Schraeder). “Thanks, Sweetheart, for taking care of the kiddos while I enjoy a hobby. !”
Bridget Erb (Ensemble) is honored to be a part of this incredible production. She currently attends Mead High School, where she participates in the jazz choir and orchestra programs. Most recently on stage, she has portrayed Miss Andrew in Mary Poppins and Jack’s Mother in Into the Woods. She would like to thank her family for supporting her and The Modern for this amazing opportunity.
Joshua Lee Fox (Sailor) is very excited for his first show at The Modern Theatre. He moved from Tri-Cities, WA to be a part of this show and is very honored to be with such a talented and dedicated cast and crew.
Jerrod Galles (Ensemble) has been heavily into the theatre arts since his sophomore year in High School. Some of his favorite shows have been Rock of Ages, Nunsense, Avenue Q, Hairspray, Gypsy, Grease, and so much more. Jerrod wants to thank the team for giving him an opportunity in a show like this, and to work alongside such an incredible cast. Some faces are new to him and some, not so new. But all friends.
Matthew Gerard (Sailor) is thrilled to be back on the Modern-CDA’s stage. The last time he was on this stage he played Charles Guiteau in Sondheim’s Assassins. Alanna Hamilton (Charity/Angel) is so excited to make her debut at the Modern Theatre. Alanna is currently attending Whitworth University where she is a double major in Theatre and Business Management and hopes to pursue a career in Arts Administration. Her favorite role has been as Catherine Donahue in These Shining Lives. She is so grateful for this opportunity and thanks her family and the directorial staff for their support!
Kelly Hauenstein (Elisha Whitney) is a local actor who has appeared on several stages throughout the region. Past Modern Theatre credits include: Ensemble in All is Calm, Thenardier in Les Miserables, and ensemble in Rent. Other credits include David Frost in Frost/Nixon, Aldolpho in The Drowsy Chaperone, and Skippy in The Marriage of Bette and Boo. Kelly would like to thank his wonderful wife Theresa for her unending support and being his biggest fan.
Shawn Hunt (Sailor/Ensemble) is thrilled to be a part of such a fantastic show. Shawn was recently seen on the Modern-CDA stage as Rufus in The Great American Trailer Park Christmas Musical, and Franz in Rock of Ages. Other works include Assassins, Avenue Q, Les Miserables, A Christmas Carol, and Honk! The Musical. He is grateful for each opportunity he gets to do what he loves.
David Kappus (Captain) is thrilled to return to the stage at The Modern! He has been involved with various theaters in the area. Previous appearances on The Modern stage include The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940, Damn Yankees, and Urinetown. Favorite orchestra performances behind the drums include Rent, Les Miserables, and Sound of Music. There is joy and happiness in theater and we hope you feel some in this performance. Mikala Lindgren (Chastity/Angel) is honored to be making her Modern stage debut with such a fun vibrant show! She is currently a junior at University High School . She most recently portrayed Morticia Addams in The Addams Family, Miss.Smyth in Mary Poppins, and the “By My Side” Soloist in Godspell. She would like to thank her family and close friends who have made her dreams possible, as well as The Modern family for welcoming her.

Caitlin Duffey (Hope) is ecstatic to be a part of such an energetic show! Currently a senior at University High School, she has been seen in numerous performances throughout the area. Most recently, she portrayed Mary Poppins in Mary Poppins the musical at U-High and Crissy in Hair-In Concert with the Modern Spokane. She plans on pursuing a career in musical theatre after graduating high school. Caitlin would like to thank her family and close friends who have provided unconditional support throughout all of her endeavors on the stage.
Brandon Montang (Purser) is thrilled to be stepping onstage at The Modern Theater-Spokane. From Spokane Valley, Brandon has enormous respect for the work that has been done here and the artists that have taken the stage before him. Most recently seen as John Williamson in Stage Left’s Glengarry Glen Ross, Brandon is a veteran to the stage. He hopes you enjoy the show, a true labor of love.
Kayla Mueller (Erma Latour) is excited to be back on the Modern CDA’s stage in such a fun role! Recent credits include Jenny in Company with the Modern Theatre, Kate Monster in Avenue Q for Lake City Playhouse, Choreographer for Gypsy at Spokane Civic and Chiffon in Little Shop of Horrors at Ignite! Community Theatre. She would like to thank the love of her life and hero Jacob for always being in her corner and to my “littles” Emma and Maddie, ” I love you as big as the sky!”
Autumn Plucker (Ensemble) is 16 years old and a student at Coeur d’Alene Highschool. Recently she’s been seen in CST’s production of Shrek as Teen Fiona, as well as many other shows in and around the Coeur d’Alene area. She’d like to thank The Modern Theatre and her parents for giving her the opportunity to do what she loves.
Nicholas Ponting (John) happily returns to The Modern! Recent stage credits include The Modern/LCP: Avenue Q, Urinetown, Of Mice and Men. Trevor Rau (Ensemble) is excited to make his debut with the Modern Theater. Trevor is a freshman at Lewis and Clark High School, and has been an active member in the area’s theatre community for 4 years. Jeremy Whittington (Moonface Martin) is the Scenic Artist for the Modern Theater. His set credits include Boeing Boeing, Assassins, Other Dessert Cities, Lucky Me, Last of the Boys and more. Jeremy last appeared on stage as Sam Byck in Assassins and has had many other on stage roles in his 25 years of performing. Jamie Russell (Costumer) joined Lake City Playhouse as Resident Costumer at the start of the 2010-11 Season. Having costumed for variety of production companies throughout the Inland Northwest, she is thrilled to call The Modern Theater home. Jamie costumes many of the main stage at both venues.
Amy Kells (Costumer) is honored to be a part of The Modern Theater this season! She started in theater as a stage mom which lead her performing in four productions herself and costuming over twenty-five productions. She has enjoyed involvement with theater education programs in the Spokane area including Ponderosa Elementary, University High School, and Christian Youth Theater. Amy’s passion for costuming stems from her love of people and witnessing them develop inner character while portraying a contrasting character on stage.
Jeremy Whittington (Set Design) has built and painted the Modern sets for Boeing Boeing, Assassins, The Wild Party, Other Desert Cities, Lucky Me, Last of the Boys and many, many more. He was the Stage Manager for Other Desert Cities and The Wild Party as well.
