The sixth-graders are eager to win for very different reasons. Six awkward spelling champions learn that winning (and losing) isn’t everything.
While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home life, the tweens spell their way through a series of [potentially made-up] words hoping to never hear the soul-crushing “ding”. This show is a riotous ride complete with audience participation.
Lance Babbitt is thrilled to be making his Modern Theater directing debut with this wonderful production. A graduate of WSU and NYU. Lance has performed on stages around the country. Favorite roles: uncle fester, the. Devil, Roger DeBris, nicely-nicely Johnson, Luther Billi’s..to name a few. As a director: Carousel, Kiss Me Kate, Sordid Lives. Trigger Weddle (Rona Peretti) studied acting at Circle In The Square in NYC, and holds a M.A. in Drama from the University of Arkansas. She is the Jazz Instructor and a Choreographer at Northern Dance Academy. Her choreography has been seen in competitions and theatrical productions in the region. She loves directing, and has helmed many local and college productions. Recent acting credits: Maria (Lend Me a Tenor), Rosie (Bye Bye Birdie), and Laurie (Third). Trigger is the Artistic Director for Aspire Community Theatre.
Jerry Sciarrio (Panch) spent 21 years touring internationally, and recently returned from Florida where he appeared in LAST OF THE RED HOT LOVERS and A WONDERFUL LIFE. Favorite roles: Max -THE PRODUCERS, The Pastor – CHURCH BASEMENT LADIES, multiple characters in THE 39 STEPS, and THE MIRACLE WORKER directed by Patty Duke. He has lead workshops in Acting, Directing and Theater History. He also has a number of feature film roles and has voiced over 130 audio books.
Robby French (Mitch) is a graduate of both The New York Conservatory for the Dramatic Arts, and The American Musical Dramatic Academy in NYC. Film/ T.V. : All My Children, Law and Order : SVU. Tour/ Regional : The Complete Works of William Shakespeare . . . Abridged! Grantaire (Les Misérables), Enjolras ( Les Misérables) Jerry (The Full Monty), Jesus (Godspell) Gabe (Next To Normal), and Judas in JC Superstar. Modern credits: Cousin Kevin (Tommy), Jamie (The Last Five Years), Berger ( HAIR), and Roger Davis in the local award winning RENT for all three productions. Love to Msw and Family.
Marlee Andrews (Olive Ostrovsky)is thrilled to part of such an amazing cast! She was last seen on the Modern stage as Aldonza in Man of La Mancha, The Wild Party and Rock of Ages (Ensemble). A graduate of EWU, previous roles include Mrs. Patrick (A Man of No Importance), Witch #3 (Macbeth), and Carrie White(Carrie the Musical). She would like to thank her family and friends for their kick ass and loving support.
Aubree Peterson (Logainne Schwartzy) is incredibly excited to be a part of such a stellar cast! She has been a part of many productions around the area, both on-stage and off. Favorite roles include Mae (The Wild Party), Lynette ‘Squeaky’ Fromme (Assassins) and Little Sally (Urinetown). She would like to thank her parents and friends for allowing her to live creatively and always supporting her unconditionally. Enjoy the show!
Alliyiah Gorman (Marcy Park) is thrilled to be back at the modern theater in one of her all time favorite productions. Previous work includes Gingy (Shrek the Musical), Antonia (Man of La Mancha) and Nadine (The Wild Party). Her theatrical work extends to Directing I Never Saw Another Butterfly at University High School. You will see her in the upcoming season in Heathers the musical as Heather Duke, and American Idiot as ensemble. She would like to thank her family and friends for their support and love.
Jeremy Whittington (William Barfée) is the Scenic Artist for the Modern Theater. His set credits include Boeing Boeing, Assassins, Other Dessert Cities, Lucky Me, Last of the Boys and more. Jeremy last appeared on stage as Sam Byck in Assassins and has had many other on stage roles in his 25 years of performing. He is excited about the evolution of the arts in the Inland Northwest and is happy to call the Modern Theater home. jeremycreates.com
Rio Alberto (Leaf Coneybear) is honored and excited to be joining the cast of the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee here at the Modern Theatre-CDA. Recent roles include Sancho Panza (Man of La Mancha), Oscar (The Wild Party), Nikos Argitakos (Legally Blonde), Seaweed (Hairspray), Ching Ho (Thoroughly Modern Millie) and Warner (Legally Blonde).
